Meet the Board of Directors
Archibald “Mac” McFarlane
Founder/President
You can’t help but be swept away by Archibald “Mac” McFarlane’s infectious enthusiasm.
Mac is a native of Belize, a small Caribbean country in the heart of Central America, where he served in the Belize National Fire Service (BNFS) for ten years before migrating to the United States. Since settling in Richmond, Virginia, nineteen years ago, he has continued his career in the fire service, dedicating the last ten and a half years to the Hanover Fire-EMS Department.
Mac has always strived for excellence in public safety and to improve the services provided by the Belize National Fire Service (BNFS).
As the BNFS’s first training officer tasked with developing the BNFS’s firefighting programs, he eagerly participated in emergency-response training provided by international fire departments.
Migration to the U.S. just gave him more ways to help.
After completing the Chesterfield Fire & EMS Training Academy, he arranged for two members of the Belize National Fire Service (one participant is current Deputy Chief Benisford Matura) to attend Chesterfield’s Fire & EMS recruit school #30. Over the years, Mac has also continually acquired firefighting equipment from Virginia that he continues to ship to Belize himself, on his own dime.
This staunch passion and commitment led him to form the precursor to Belize Heroes in 2017, fueled by community support and a dream of formalizing and expanding this work to realize a greater impact on safeguarding lives in Belize.
Mac has also furthered his education in the U.S., obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, and two bachelor’s degrees: one in Human Resources with a minor in Leadership from the University of Richmond, and the other in Nursing Science from South University.
Mac is a Registered Nurse (RN) and on his days off from the Hanover Fire-EMS Department, works part time as an emergency room nurse with HCA’s Swift Creek ER, and volunteer as an Assistant Fire Marshal for the City of Colonial Heights.
