Belize Heroes is proud to announce that it is now… Belize Heroes!
Our organization’s original name, Virginia Emergency Services Assistance Program for Belize, although descriptive, was too long. And the shortened version, VESAP for Belize, seemed to confuse people because they didn’t know what “VESAP” was and would be so focused on that acronym that they’d forget about the Belize aspect of things. Understandably!
So the challenge was to come up with a new concise name that accurately says everything that the non-profit represents. CreateAthon@VCU, a group of Virginia Commonwealth University students, thought deeply about who these emergency responders are and how they have devoted their lives to saving those in need.
From their creativity, the new name “Belize Heroes” was born.
VESAP for Belize’s logo had a toucan, which is very representative of Belize but it was not representative of our mission.
The VCU team decided to create a logo with a firefighter hat, since this organization equips and trains firefighters and EMTs. The firefighter hat is designed to resemble ancient Belizean stone designs.
They chose the blue color for part of the logo because of Belize’s beautiful blue shores. Plus water combats fire!
Finally and perhaps most important, the team decided to make the colors in the type varied so that, at first, you see simply see “Belize Heroes” but upon closer inspection, you can see the message in black: “Be heroes.”
Because you are heroes by helping this organization.
